A week ago a friend sent me the link to the video for the new Sarah McLachlan song "World on Fire". He told me that the video would have a tremendous emotional impact on me. He was absolutely right. I watched the video six or seven times in a row before I knew what to think.

It did two things to me. First, it was a reminder of how blessed we all are. It's something that I forget way too often. Too much time spent focusing on what's lacking in my life and too little spent on all of the wonderful things that do exist.

The second thing it did was make me realize all over again how much work there is to do in this world of ours. We live at a remarkable time in human history. A time in which I honestly believe that we have the resources and capability to put an end to some of the problems that have haunted mankind for thousands of years. But at the same time, there are so many other forces pushing us in the other direction.

For me, it was a wake-up call at a time I sorely needed it. A reminder that there are people out there who don't wake up knowing that they are going to eat enough that day to survive. It's easy to turn a blind eye to such problems. And then you see something like this and it makes you think that turning a blind eye is the biggest mistake you can make in your life.

I encourage you to watch it. Ponder it. And if you feel so moved, do something about how you feel. And please (please!) pass it on to your friends and relatives. The more people see this video, the more chance it has to change the world.
